Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘓𑘰𑘘𑘜𑘹 (cāṭaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀘𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁂𑀇 (caṭṭei), probably of imitative origin. Cognate with Gujarati ચાટવું (cāṭvũ), Hindi चाटना (cāṭnā), Bengali চাটা (caṭa).
