Etymology edit

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀘𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁂𑀇 (caṭṭei), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆 (*caṭṭ), of onomatopoeic origin. Compare to Hindi चाटना (cāṭnā), Gujarati ચાટવું (cāṭvũ), Marathi चाटणे (cāṭṇe).
