Inherited from Old Hindi चौदह (caudaha), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀉𑀤𑁆𑀤𑀲 (caüddasa), from Sanskrit चतुर्दश (cáturdaśa). Cognate with Punjabi ਚੌਦਾਂ (caudā̃), Bengali চোদ্দ (cōddo), Nepali चौध (caudh), Marathi चौदा (caudā), and Gujarati ચૌદ (caud).
