Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘕𑘻𑘚𑘜𑘹 (joḍaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑁄𑀟𑁂𑀇 (joḍei), from Sanskrit यौटति (yauṭati), यौडति (yauḍati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yawg-, from Proto-Indo-European *yewg- (to yoke). Cognate with Gujarati જોડવું (joḍvũ), Hindi जोड़ना (joṛnā). Related to जुळणे (j̈uḷṇe), जोडा (j̈oḍā), जोडी (j̈oḍī).
