Etymology

Derived from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀝𑀼𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆 (*ṭukk, “to cut, break”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Assamese টুকুৰা (tukura), Bengali টুকরা (ṭukra).
