Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘘𑘹𑘎𑘜𑘹 (ṭekaṇe), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀝𑁂𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆- (*ṭekk-). Cognate with Gujarati ટેકવું (ṭekvũ), Hindustani ٹیکْنَا (ṭeknā) / टेकना (ṭeknā), Punjabi ਟੇਕਣਾ (ṭekṇā) / ٹیکݨا (ṭekṇā), Nepali टेक्नु (ṭeknu), Odia ଟେକିବା (ṭekiba), Bengali টেকা (ṭeka).
