Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi थाटणे (thāṭaṇe, to plant), from Sanskrit स्थाप्य (sthāpya, to be placed), ultimately from the root स्था (sthā). By surface analysis, थाट (thāṭ) +‎ -णे (-ṇe).
