Inherited from Old Marathi दांत (dāṃta), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀤𑀁𑀢 (daṃta), from Sanskrit दन्त (danta). Cognate with Gujarati દાંત (dā̃t), Hindi दाँत (dā̃t), Punjabi ਦੰਦ (dand), Bengali দাঁত (dãt), Assamese দাঁত (dãt).
