Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi पाखिरूं (pākhirūṃ), from Sanskrit पक्षिरूप (pakṣirūpa), from पक्षिन् (pakṣin, bird) +‎ रूप (rūpa, shape). Compare Gujarati પંખેરું (paṅkherũ), Hindi पखेरू (pakherū).
