editInherited from Old Marathi पातळ (pātaḷa), from Prakrit 𑀧𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀮 (pattala), from Sanskrit पत्त्रल (pattrala). Cognate with Gujarati પાતળું (pātaḷũ), Hindi पतला (patlā), Odia ପାତଳ (pātaḷa), Bengali পাতলা (patola), Assamese পাতল (patol). Related to पातळी (pātḷī, “level”).
