From Proto-Indo-Aryan *praHwŕ̥ṣ, from *pra- (forth) + Proto-Indo-European *h₁wr̥s-, zero-grade of *h₁wers- (to rain). Related to वर्ष (varṣa), वर्षा (varṣā).

      अख्खलीकृत्या पितरं न पुत्रो अन्यो अन्यमुप वदन्तमेति॥
      yádīmenām̐ uśató abhyávarṣīttṛṣyā́vataḥ prāvṛ́ṣyā́gatāyām.
      akhkhalīkṛ́tyā pitáram ná putró anyó anyámúpa vádantameti.
      When at the coming of the rains the water has poured upon them as they yearned and thirsted,
      One seeks another as he talks and greets him with cries of pleasure as a son his father.
