From Pali 𑀩𑀸𑀳𑀺𑀭𑁄 (bāhiro) (compare Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀸𑀳𑀺𑀭 (bāhira)), from Sanskrit बहिर् (bahir), a compounding form of बहिस् (bahis). Compare Hindi बाहर (bāhar).
