Inherited from Prakrit 𑀪𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀺𑀬 (bhujjiya), the innovated past participle of 𑀪𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀤𑀺 (bhajjadi, “roasts”), from भृज्जति (bhṛjjati, “roasts”). Related to भुर्जी (bhurjī).
