Borrowed from Classical Persian میکده (may-kada, (literally) house of wine, bar). The first part of the compound is from Old Persian *𐎶𐎯 (*m-du /⁠*madu⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *mádu, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mádʰu, from Proto-Indo-European *médʰu (honey, mead), which is also the ancestor of मधु (madhu).
