Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀭𑀳𑀝𑁆𑀞 (marahaṭṭha), from Sanskrit महाराष्ट्र (mahārāṣṭra). Cognate with Gujarati મરાઠો (marāṭho).
