Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćáp-ša-m ~ *ćáp-sa-m, after undergoing metathesis; from the root *ćap- (greens; grass). Cognate with Persian سبزه (sabze, grass), سبزی (sabzi, vegetable), Pashto سابه (sābah), Shughni [script needed] (sebc, cultivated field).
