Borrowed from Classical Persian شاباش (šābāš), from شاد (šād, “joyful”) + باش (bāš, “be (imperative)”). Compare Gujarati શાબાશ (śābāś), Hindi शाबाश (śābāś), Punjabi ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ (śābāś) / شاباش (śābāś), Bengali শাবাশ (śabaś), Assamese চাবাচ (sabas).
