Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘲𑘎 (sīka), 𑘭𑘲𑘽𑘎 (sīṃka), from Prakrit 𑀙𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀸 (chikkā), from Sanskrit onomatopoeic noun छिक्का (chikkā). Related to शिंकणे (śiṅkṇe).
