Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘭𑘰𑘘𑘜𑘹 (sāṭaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀞𑀸𑀇 (saṃṭhāi) (compare Sanskrit समस्थिरन (samasthirana), संतिष्ठते (saṃtiṣṭhate), Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀘𑀺𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀇 (saṃciṭṭhaï), 𑀲𑀁𑀘𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (saṃcikkhaï)). Compare Old Punjabi ਸੰਢਿ (saṇḍhi, to settle (an account)), Maithili साँठब (sā̃ṭhab) / 𑒮𑒰𑒿𑒚𑒥 (sā̃ṭaba), Odia ସାଉଁଟିବା (sāũṭibā), Bengali সাঁটা (śãṭa).
