Inherited from Prakrit *𑀘𑀺𑀩𑁆𑀩𑀢𑀺 (*cibbati), a vowel-variant of *𑀘𑀩𑁆𑀩𑀢𑀺 (*cabbati), from earlier *𑀘𑀯𑁆𑀯𑀢𑀺 (*cavvati) with fortition, from Sanskrit चर्वति (carvati). Cognate with Hindi चिब्लाना (ciblānā). Doublet of চোয়াল (cōẇal) and চাবানো (cabanō).
