Borrowed from Classical Persian نوبت (nawbat), which is derived from Arabic نَوْبَة (nawba, “turn, shift”). Cognate with Armenian նոպա (nopa), Maltese newba, French nouba and Turkish nöbet.

- A large round drum for making a special sound at the monarch's door every morning and evening or every hour.
