পোড়া (pōṛa) and পোড়ানো (pōṛanō) are both commonly translated as to burn, but the two terms are not interchangeable.

  • পোড়া (pōṛa) treats the thing being burned as the subject:
    মাছটা পুড়ছে
    machṭa puṛoche.
    The fish is burning.
  • পোড়ানো (pōṛanō) treats it as the object:
    মাছটা পোড়াচ্ছে
    machṭa pōṛacche.
    They are burning the fish.
