Inherited from Prakrit *𑀪𑀭𑀯𑀲𑁆𑀲 (*bharavassa), from Sanskrit *भरवश्य (bharavaśya, dependence on support​), composed of भर (bhara, load, weight, support) +‎ वश्य (vaśya, dependent). Cognate with Odia ଭରସା (bharasā), Maithili 𑂦𑂩𑂷𑂮 (bharos), Hindustani भरोसा (bharosā) / بھروسہ (bharosa), Gujarati ભરોંસો (bharõso), Punjabi ਭਰੋਸਾ (bharosā), Sindhi ڀَروَسو (bharvaso), ڀَرِوَسو (bharoso), Marathi भर्वसा (bharvasā).
