Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀡𑁆𑀡𑁄𑀯𑀯𑀻𑀅 (jaṇṇovavīa), from Sanskrit यज्ञोपवीत (yajñopavītá). Cognate with Old Marathi 𑘕𑘰𑘜𑘲𑘪𑘹𑘽 (jāṇīveṃ), 𑘕𑘰𑘡𑘲𑘪𑘹𑘽 (jānīveṃ).
