Inherited from Prakrit 𑀚𑀡𑁆𑀡𑀸 (jaṇṇā), from Sanskrit जन्य (jánya). Cognate with Sindhi ڄَڃَ (ǰaña) and Gujarati જાન (jān). Doublet of ਜਿਨਸ (jinas).
