Inherited from Prakrit, from Sanskrit स्थेष्ठ (stheṣṭha). Compare Hindi ठेठ (ṭheṭh) / ٹھیٹ (ṭheṭ), Gujarati ઠેઠ (ṭheṭh) and Marathi थेट (theṭ).
