Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀅𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀺 (akkhi), from Sanskrit अक्षि (akṣi). Doublet of અક્ષિ (akṣi). Cognate with Bengali আঁখ (ãkh), Hindi आँख (ā̃kh), Kashmiri أچھ (ạch), Kalasha eč, Nepali आँखा (ā̃khā), Odia ଆଖି (akhi), Punjabi ਅੱਖ (akkha) and Romani jakh. Wider cognates include English eye.
