Etymology edit
Inherited from Prakrit *𑀞𑀻𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀡 (*ṭhīkkaṇa), from *𑀞𑀻𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*ṭhīkka, “firm, right”) + -𑀅𑀡 (-aṇa, nominal suffix), probably extended from Sanskrit स्था (sthā, “to stand, stay”), with the meaning extended likewise to mean the place where one is firmly standing or staying. Cognate with Bengali ঠিকানা (ṭhikana), Hindustani ٹھکانا / ठिकाना (ṭhikānā), Marathi ठिकाण (ṭhikāṇ), and Punjabi ਟਿਕਾਣਾ (ṭikāṇā) / ٹِکانا (ṭikānā).
