Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀤𑁄𑀳𑀡 (dohaṇa), from Sanskrit दोहनी (dohanī). Cognate with Bengali দোহনী (dōhoni), Hindustani دُہْنی / दुहनी (duhnī), Kachchi ડોણો (ḍoṇo), Punjabi دوہنی / ਦੋਹਨੀ (dohnī), Odia ଦୋହନୀ (dohani), and Sinhalese දෝහය (dōhaya).

      દહીંની દોણી ધોઈ હોય તોય તેમાં રાખતાં બીક લાગે ; ઘણે ભાગે દૂધ બગડી જાય.
      dahī̃nī doṇī dhoī hoy toy temā̃ rākhtā̃ bīk lāge ; ghaṇe bhāge dūdh bagḍī jāya.
      Even if the yogurt pot is washed, it feels risky to keep things in it; often, the milk spoils.
