Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑀡𑁆𑀳 (laṇha), from Sanskrit श्लक्ष्णक (ślakṣṇaka, “slim, gentle, thin, small”). Cognate with Hindi नन्हा (nanhā), Marathi लहान (lahān), Nepali सानो (sāno).
