Etymology edit

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀸𑀡 (pallāṇa), from Sanskrit पल्याण (palyāṇa), from Iranian, from Proto-Iranian *pari-dāna- (literally around-placed), from *pari- (around) and a derivative of Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁- (to put, place). Cognate with Bengali পালান (palan), Hindustani پلان / पलान (palān), Kachchi પલાણ (palāṇ), Marathi पलाण (palāṇ), Odia ପଲାଣ (pôlaṇô), and Sindhi پالَڻ (pālaṇ).
