Usage notes edit
This conjunction is a general "or." It can be used as an inclusive "or" or as an exclusive "or." Compare with "ಇಲ್ಲವೆ."
It should be noted that as in all cases in Kannada where there is disjunction in the subject, the subject still governs a plural verb. For example: "ಅವನು ಅಥವಾ ಅವಳು ಹೋಗುವರು" ("he or she will go").
