Etymology

From Proto-Malayic *pirak. Possibly of Khmeric origin.[1] Compare Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer prak ~ prāk (silver), from the root pak ~ pāk (to break) with infix <r>, whence Khmer ប្រាក់ (prak) and បាក់ (pak).
