Possibly extended from Middle Khmer ស្រាល (srāla, light (in weight)) or Angkorian Old Khmer *ស្រាល៑ (*srāl), ឝ្រាល៑ (śrāl, light (in weight)), which is firstly became สราญ (srǎan). -ญ is corrupted.
