དབུས (dbus, “center”) +‎ འགྱུར ('gyur, “become”) +‎ འཆང ('chang, “hold, bear”); can be interpreted as “holding that which became the center”. Calque of Sanskrit मगध (magadha), from मध्य (madhya, “middle”) + गति (gati, “becoming”), according to one theory.
