Etymology edit

The Akkadian translation of this word is based on Classical Syriac ܚܣܬܐ (ḥastā, lettuce). Considered either a loanword in Sumerian (see 𒄭𒊬 (ḫisar /⁠ḫiz⁠/, lettuce) or a Kulturwort. Cognate with Arabic خَسّ (ḵass) and Hebrew חַסָּה (ḥassɔ).
