Etymology edit

Derived from owó + ẹ̀sán.

Pronunciation edit

Numeral edit

ẹẹ́sàn-án

  1. nine (used when counting)

Usage notes edit

  • According to the Standard Yoruba Orthography approved by the Joint Consultative Committee on Education in June 1974, to show the lengthening of a nasal vowel and not a syllabic nasal, a hyphen should be inserted: ẹẹ́sàn-án and not ẹẹ́sànán. Nonetheless, the latter, in addition to ẹẹ́sàn, is still used.
