- (Buddhism) "five pungent roots" (five forbidden vegetables in Buddhist cuisine). Includes garlic and asafoetida; the other three are among Allium victorialis, Allium chinense, Allium fistulosum, Allium macrostemon and Allium tuberosum, according to various sources.
