Borrowed from Manchu ᡴᡳᡵᡤᡳᠰ (kirgis, Yenisei Kirghiz). The term was originally referring to the Yenisei Kirghiz people during the Qing period, whereas 布魯特布鲁特 (Bùlǔtè) was used to call the Tian Shan Kirghiz.
