저번
Korean
editEtymology
editUniverbation of 저 (jeo, “that”) + 번(番) (beon, “time”). The vowel is lengthened by mistaken conflation with 這 (jeo, “this”), whence also the hanja spelling.
Pronunciation
edit- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈt͡ɕɘ(ː)bʌ̹n]
- Phonetic hangul: [저(ː)번]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
