From Proto-Iranian *Hr̥taxšaθrah. Equivalent to 𐎠𐎼𐎫 (r̥taʰ, Asha; truth) +‎ 𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎶 (xšaçam, realm; reign).[1] Cognate with Parthian 𐭀𐭓𐭕𐭇𐭔𐭕𐭓 (ʾrtḥštr /⁠Ardaxšahr⁠/).
