From Latin Artaxerxēs, from Ancient Greek Ἀρταξέρξης (Artaxérxēs), from Old Persian 𐎠𐎼𐎫𐎧𐏁𐏂𐎠 (a-r-t-x-š-ç-a /⁠artaxšaça⁠/, whose rule is through truth). Akin to Old Armenian Արտաշէս (Artašēs) and Persian اردشیر (ardašir).
