Inherited from Proto-Turkic *biĺč- (to ripen). Cognate with Chuvash пиҫ (piś), Khalaj bışmaq, Turkish pişmek, Uzbek pishmoq, Bashkir бешеү (beşew), Yakut бус (bus).
