editAccording to Kloekhorst, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂or-o-, o-grade form of *h₂er- (“to fit”), with the laryngeal neutralized before PIE */o/. Cognate with Lycian [script needed] (ara-, “rite”), Sanskrit अरम् (áram, “fittingly”), ऋत (ṛtá, “truth”), Ancient Greek ἀραρίσκω (ararískō, “to join”).
