Etymology
editA rotated ⟨Є⟩ shape for 'calx' with a cross at bottom for calx viva i.e. quicklime.
Symbol
edit🝁
- (alchemy, archaic) quicklime, calx viva
- (alchemy, archaic) any calx (the object of calcination, prototypically lime)
Usage notes
editUsed by Newton. In the works of Torbern Bergman, ca. 1775, may be followed with the symbol for a metal to indicate the calx of that metal, e.g. ⟨🝁♀⟩ calx of copper.
