Many folk etymologies attempt to explain the origin of the name, such as Blend of ajá (dog) +‎ ni (is) +‎ mọ̀ (to know) +‎ Ògún (Ogun), literally It is the dog that knows Ògún. Compare with Ìrèmògún, Ẹkímògún
