Lojban

Etymology

The lujvo (“compound word”) brivla is derived from bri + vla (i.e.: Rafsi of the gismu. bridi (“sentence, predication”)) + Rafsi of the gismu. valsi (“word”))

Predicate

1. (grammar) brivla (“content words”)

   There are three different varieties of brivla (categorematic words)

   1. those which are built into the language (the gismu (“root word”)),
   2. those which are derived from combinations of the gismu (“root word”) (the lujvo (“compound predicate word”) ), and
   3. those which are taken (usually in a modified form) from other languages (the fu'ivla (“loanword”)).

In Lojban, such words must end in a vowel and contain a consonant cluster within the first five letters (not counting y). Not all words that can be used as a selbri (“predicate”) (for instance members of go'a ) are brivla.
