Proto-Germanic
editEtymology
editFrom Pre-Germanic *pémpe, with an irregular consonant change from Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe, perhaps influenced by the initial *p; or instead would become the expected form **finhw. Possibly related to Proto-Germanic *funstiz (“fist”) and *fingraz (“finger”).
