Baaks is attested in 1979 as Baaks, Sweijer is first attested in 1466 as scherwier. Baaks derives from the surname Baxen and refers to a former owner of the fiefdom of Sweijer. Sweijer is potentially derived from Latin *carrucaria (“ploughable land”). Compare Swier.
