From Kannada ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು (beṅgaḷūru). The source of the name Bengaluru is usually attributed to [script needed] (beṅga-val-ūru, city of guards) in Old Kannada or [script needed] (benda-kāl-ūru, town of boiled beans) from Kannada folklore.
